Its that special time of year, again. We will spend the day with loved ones thinking about the year that has just passed and fulled with hope for the new one.
Id like to wish all our members a very Happy and Healthy New Year.
To the core membership, and I will not mentioned names since to inadvertently miss one will cause hurt feelings, I say TY for the support that you have given the forum; donating your time to help others is a great gift that you have given to others.
To Forum managment and staff, TY for helping us with some of the problem posts, thanks for quietly staying in the background and allowing us to help in the way that we know best.
To the groups that I have mentioned and to all the members and guests a very Happy and Healthy New Year to you and all your loved ones.

Happy new year to all! Anybody celebrating (like a lot) tonight? I'm not this year (usually do) at a party hosted by a neighbour. Sadly, it went wrong, when a nine year old got completely hammered last year. I don't drink at all, but she did! It got a bit more reckless each year, with the adults drinking more and more each year, then they lit fireworks, some of them quite hopelessly drunk as it was. The floating sky lantern got stuck in a pine tree, but so fortunately the fire-proof paper did its bit, and for some reason the fun was starting to wear off at half three in the morning wandering around in a forest trying to find a drunk!

In my Town they have a 12 hours New Years Party. Its outdoors with food, games, fun, but no drinks. Its a paid affair, but a great place for families.When I go out for dinner, the streets in the area are filled with families. Its nice to see families together loving and enjoying each other.

That sounds wonderful! As a family, we don't really drink. My mother doesn't at all, my father might have a single glass of wine with a special meal maybe once every two or three months. So much more sensible. Just what is the point in getting hammered and doing stupid things?

Thank you to everyone - yes, it is fair to say you all have helped those 'less knowledgeable'. Restores my faith in humanity to know there are so many out there in the world willing to provide their time and experience helping fellow humans - oh, what a concept!

Happy New Year to everyone! While I'd really like to single some people out, I too won't for the same reasons as Richard - but you know who you are (and if you're wondering, err on the side that I do mean you too).

I wish I could get smashed as I did in my younger days - but alas, I don't really drink any more (and even though I'd planned to make an exception tonight, it turns out that's not going to be possible now). If I'm even up at midnight, it will be because I just slept for a few hours and woke in time and was able to stay awake through it - I hope so as I'm sure my wife will be awake and I'd love to be able to celebrate the moment with her (even if it is just a glass of OJ for me).

I'd love to hear anyone's resolutions or wishes. I have only one - a stabilized medication regimen that actually works most of the time (all of the time would be like wishing for the super-soldier serum so I could become Captain America). Though I have a few others, they're so far below that one that they aren't even worth mentioning.

Well, there is one other. I hope this forum remains active with most of the current participants (especially most of the regulars) and that while serving the OPs is obviously the primary purpose of the forum, being friendly, courteous, polite, thoughtful, encouraging, rewarding, helpful, cheerful, and just basically pleasant not just to the OP, but also to each other is quite important and deserves some time and effort as well - certainly not anywhere nearly as much, but it doesn't take much to do so and that can make this an even better place for everyone. That is very much the whole point of this thead - so do we consider those who read or reply to it to not be doing their duty because while here they aren't replying to OPs? Of course not.

I know one member who just told me (privately) these things aren't necessary as the member would rather post replies to OPs which makes the member "happier" than wasting time on all this "popularity contest" nonsense which, unlike serving the OPs, is not the purpose of the forum; but I think these things help make this a better and more pleasant work environment and need not and have not and will not interfere with serving the OPs (especially given the volumes we have and can probably continue to expect - so a little effort here can't possibly cause the forum to fall behind or harm our service to the OPs). It's not like it's a choice between the two - there's enough time for the proper amount of effort dedicated to each. This already occurs with and between most members and my wish is that it continues and increases and is embraced by all members this new year.
