Solved help me please?!

Hi all, hope everyone is well and everything is going like it should.
I got a bit of a problem, today i finished come coursework and tried to print it from my computer, but it didnt print, so i went to my mums computer and plugged my pendrive in.

so up comes the autoplay box (Win XP) and i click browse files, so all my files come up and i go the the folder where the document is. so i hi-light the folder and a box comes up saying its deleting the folder.
It gets to about half way deleting and i realise what it is actually deleting, all my coursework, so as you would imagine im sitting there, thinking "OH FORK", so it deletes and that was the end of that.

So i leg it into my dad and tell him whats happened, so he used this program called 'Power Data Recovery' and all of my deleted items on the pen drive pop up. so i plug it back into my computer and re open the documents to make sure they are still there and they all came up in this dodgey symbol writhing *ill attach a pic*

is there any was possible that i can get these files back to how they were before?

Just a guess here, What happens if you choose Windows(default) and then ok?

Hi,

Whatever you do DO NOT copy ANY files onto that memory stick. This will permanently overwrite your coursework.

Sorry for my rushed last post! It is worth trying several different recovery tools, one will sometimes work better than another one. Here is a good free tool: DmitryBrant.com » DiskDigger and here is a very famous, good free tool: Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File and Disk Recovery - Free Download and here is a list of free tools: Free Data Recovery, File and Partition Recovery, Undelete and Unformat Utilities (thefreecountry.com).

I wish you good luck with the recovery process. If a light scan does not do the trick try the deepest scan possible, even though it will take longer.

thanks Richard, the one we used was Recuva, we used the un delete and the deepest scan, all the coursework is scattered in different parts of the pendrive, but i can see it and it is there. The problem is that it is all coming up in diamonds and squares when i open it up in word.

Just tried to copy it to my mums pendrive as she works at my school and said that she would see if our network admins can do anything about it, but it just kept saing that the files were corrupted and it couldnt copy.

i really think that i have lost them for good

This sounds alot like your problem here,
You cannot open a document in Microsoft Word 2003

Hi Daniel,

As an afterthought, try all the recovery procedures on the computer you used to write the coursework, in the directory you had it saved in. Ideally, run the programs off a CD or another pen drive if you can, though chances are it won't make a difference if you don't.

P.S I know that you won't want to hear this now, but next time, back up your work to your Hard Disk (ideally in two locations), your memory stick, and something like Skydrive: skydrive.live.com/ You use the same login as your Hotmail account(it's free)

AHA! just tried the link that derekimo gave me, and found this How to recover text from any files by using the "Recover Text from Any File" converter of Word
and it worked! i have parts of work in other bits of work and it may take some time to get them in order , but it worked! thanks so much for you help, +rep :D
