I'm trying to narrow down a high DPC issue on my PC. It only starts occuring after about a day of uptime and upon high bandwidth usage in any program (torrent, firefox, IE, ANYTHING). Using the Windows SDK Performance ToolKit I'm popping up with ndis.sys and tcpip.sys as the culprits.
I've disabled the onboard NIC and put a PCI card in, same result.
I've had this installation for quite awhile and its been heavily customized. I remember messing with the TCP/IP patch. I'm pretty sure I've restored it to its original state but I can't be 100% positive. I have a few inquiries for you forum-goers:
Anyone with Vista Home Premium 32-bit & SP2 - If you could look up the file size of ndis.sys and tcpip.sys under C:\windows\system32\drivers I would appreciate it. Also, right click->Propertities->Details File version and product version for both of the files.
If they don't match - I'll ask you to post those files for me to try and plug in.
My second question: I'm under the impression that Vista SP2 REPLACES ndis.sys and tcpip.sys with newer files. I'm wondering if I uninstall and reinstall SP2 I might get originals. I have been unable to find a list of files modified for SP2. Can anyone verify or deny this?
Thank you for helping me track down this problem.
