Solved How do I change dpi settings

I have recently installed software called 'Tune Up Utilites 2010' and immediately found a vast improvement and one its recommendations was to increase resolution to 1680 x 1050. Having then done that in 'Display Properties' it then advises to 'Set dpi to 96'.

However, I cannot find how to make changes to dpi. Any ideas please.

I have now discovered the answer to my own question. Vista Default Font size is dpi 96. This I inadvertantly changed when having increased my Screen size to 1680 x 1050 this made my Fonts appear very small, so I opted for the larger Font size 120 (dpi). Tune Up Utilities detected this change and in the interests of performance improvement (a criterion I had established when setting up my user preferences) it suggest reducing to 'dpi 96'. I hadn't realised then that dpi was related to Font size.

Having twigged that, I knew that by right clicking my cursor in Desktop, I could access 'Personalise Display' and therein Access 'Change dpi'. As I prefer the larger Font, I'll stick to 120 (dpi) in the interests of clarity.

I would be interested in your experience report regarding the "vast improvements". Thanks.

I initially installed the free trial version of Tune Up Utilities 2010 from http://www.tuneup-software.co.uk/products/tuneup-utilities/ and tried it out on firstly my Dell Desktop, later on my other machines.

Having allowed it to scan the computer, it immediately dentified 163 registry erros plus many more in various other windows categories and made suggested improvements in each case which I followed to the letter. Following installation the process including defragmenting initally took some time to complete. When all the changes had been effected, I rebooted and immediately noticed a faster boot-up time and generally a crisper response on Internet use.

Although the trial period was for 30 days, I didn't need to wait to decide it was effective and bought a '3 computer licence' and installed it on both my Compaq/HP Laptops, one running XP the other Vista. In each case I noticed better performance and quicker boot-up times.

So suffice to say, I consider it to a good bit of software that interrogates the inner workings of Windows that's generally beyond my grasp. The scans are now much quicker and operate automatically in the back ground. Having set my 'User preferences', I it leave to get on with Optimization. I have previously bought and used System Mechanic, followed Ashampoo Optimizer for several years (still currently do) but think that 'Tune Up Utilities' certainly has the edge and identfied errors Winoptimizer had ignored.

At first 'Kaspersky IS 2010' warned that identified it as 'Key logging' type program, but now allows it operate alongside it without problem. Hope that fully answer's your question.

You're welcome. My take is that any software Company that's prepared to freely let you 'Try before you buy' must have considerable confidence in the effectiveness of their product.

There are many others about that appear to offer a 'free' trial product, but having given your credit card details do you realise the only way to get the full version is to buy it and get no opportunity to test it ...its hardly free trial.
