i give up..help!

ok i don;t know if i'm posting in the right section of the forum but...vista was acting weird, it wasn't restarting, it wasn't doing other things that it should be doing. So as a last resort, after i had tried everything(i'm not a computer tech so everything to me is probably not "everything") but i popped the vista cd in and i reinstalled the system..NOT knowing that the bugger would delete ALL my files. I don't recall XP doing that.anyway..so onto the questions...

...if the files got deleted, why is my hard drive still pretty full? wouldn't it be pretty empty?are the files stored away and i can't see them?
...where is that scroller thing that goes at the side/top/bottom with the icons? how do i get it back?
...where is the auto page finder for the internet? or maybe that's just a firefox thing?

excuse my lack of computer technicality in wording...i'm tired of browsing the net for answers

You probably have windows.old

They are in the c drive, accessed from computer incon on desktop.

umm i mean...can windows.old be accessed so i can get my files back?

YES!! i found them!! and i found all my old files. The world is a good place again! You have no idea, because i store all my art files there and i thought i lost them for good...PHEW! relief!

For others with the same problem

If you have windows.old go to the computer icon on desktop
click on it
click on c drive
