Solved internet explorer (64 bit)

Hello guys..(windows vista, ultimate, 64 bit,
A freind of mine is having a few problems with her laptop..
She has a link in the start menu that says (internet explorer 64 bit)

This is what she clicks to go on the internet, Now when she visits or clicks on links, she will sometimes get a message that she needs to install flash player.

She already has the latest flash player installed, but apparently this does not work on this "internet explorer 64 bit"
I diden't even know there was a 64 bit internet explorer.

And it goes on to say something like flash player is for 32 bit browsers, for flash player to work on 64 bit browsers search online for help, or it directs you to microsoft help and support.

I don't really like to go messing around on someone elses laptop
so i thought i would just ask to see if there is one thing i could follow to fix this problem..

No the Adobe Flash Player will only work in a 32-bit web browser (ex: Internet Explorer) version and not a a 64-bit version. She would just need to use the 32-bit Internet Explorer shortcut from the Start Menu instead if she wanted to use Adobe Flash Player. It will be the one that just has Internet Explorer for a name. If she does not have one, then you can create a shortcut from it's C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe location.

Can you just unpin the 64 bit shortcut from the start menu to avoid confusion, or are you best just to leave it there

Sure, you can unpin it if you wanted to and if she will not want to use it.

You can always create a new one from the C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe location if you wanted it back later.

Just carrying on but on a slightly different matter.
IE 32 bit, keeps getting alot of automatic shutdowns, or closes on its own, but the 64 bit IE is fine which has got me confused.

I have tryed the basic fixes (ie) deleting internet cache, history,cookies, tryed IE with no add ons,
Checked for updates,

Anyone know of this problem, and anything i could try....

OK, i Will try that shawn, but if the problem is still there, would reinstalling IE 8 be another option to try.
Or could this create other problems..

This seems to be happening on her standard account, her son who has the admin account IE seems ok

If it continues, you might consider creating a new account (same type admin or standard) for her to see if it works ok in it. If it does, then you can copy all of the files in her old user account's C:\Users\(user-name) folders into the corresponding new account's user folders.
