Greatings,

I have:
  • a desktop computer with Vista
  • an android tablet (acer iconia 710)
I would like my tablet to be able to connect to the shared files on the desktop computer.

I therefore downloaded ES File Explorer on my tablet as in this link:

How to Access Shared Windows Folders On Android Over WiFi

But the procedure doesn't work. I wonder if the problem is due to the fact that I use Vista instead of Seven.

"Error: impossible to find the server"

Thank you for your help.

Have you checked that the IP address used is correct? An IPCONFIG in the command prompt can verify this. Equally, have you ensured that the everyone permission is applied to the share and that password protected sharing is turned off since it can cause incompatibility issues since your phone cannot be a part of a WORKGROUP.

Hope This Helps,
Josh :)

I made a test from my laptop to my desktop computer.

To connect to my workgroup, I needed to enter the password.

To connect to my desktop computer from my Android tablet, I didn't try to connect as "anonymous". I entered my name and password on desktop computer.

I don't exactly know where I can turn if off.

By the way, on my desktop computer, the local network seems to be considered as a public network - I don't know why. I needed to specify it was indeed a private network.
It is possible that I fiddled with the Windows Services Panel and that I deactivated something to try to gain at startup - don't know yet.

I precise that the connection from android has worked well - after I entered the PWD in android and considered the network as private on my desktop computer.
