Keyboard trouble

I am having trouble with my keybaord. When I type it seems that characters will not appear. I can be typing a any time and the keys act like they are not being pressed. At first I thought it was my keyboard but have bought a new one and it does the same thing.
Any help would be great if smeone has had the same problem. I use Vista Buisness 32bit.

What type of keyboard is it? You may need to install the driver for it. Is it connected by a USB or purple plug?

It is a microsoft wired 600 USB keyboard. I installed the driver for it but that didn't help. My other one was a dell and it did the same. I tried switching usb ports and that didn't help as well.

Is there alot of disk or cpu activity when this happens?
Does the mouse ever stutter?

I have not looked to see if cpu usage was high so next time i will check. The mouse does not have any trouble at all.

sorry to take so long to respond, I have probably installed a few apps but don't know when this started. It is starting to get to me. I have not see any trouble with the mouse or anyhing else.

Try using a USB to PS2 adaptor.
Have you got anything else connected to the USB ports?

I don't have ps2 connections on my computer. They just put usb so I am not able to try that. I have a mouse, keyboard, USB hub thats it. It is really a pain to not figure this out

This issue could be caused by a buildup of static electricity in the computer...
Unplug the power cord and press and hold the power button for 90 seconds. Then release, Replug and boot it up. Check your keyboard now and see if it works ^-^ Good Luck!

dont think that worked but it is a little better than it was i think. I hope I can fix it at some point though. It is puzzling me and it seems it is to others well

What I recommend doing is going into Device Manager, and Universal Serial Bus Ports, and uninstall them all ( If possible ) and then reboot your computer.. That will force a reinstall and re-detect of all devices attatched to the USB Ports.

redoing usb seemed to help a bit but the problem is still here. I have seen the blinking cursor studder at times if that indicates anything.

try uninstalling the keyboard (in device manager) reboot see if that helps.
while in device manager click on all the + signs and see if there are any yellow or red warning signs.

one more thing ,have you tried going in to safe mode to see if it repeats itself there.
reboot and start tapping the f8 key and choose "safe mode with networking" ...give that a go

Thanks for all the help, I'm just going to do a reinstall of vista. I noticed the computer running real slow and saw that most of the memory was being used and cpu was pinging 100 percent a lot. Will watch for trouble this time around. Backing up will take forever though lol
