LCD screens

Never could get my LCD screens properly cleaned. All 'special' products for cleaning leave them with stripes.

Being a real man, i tried using WD40. First little corner on oldest monitor, ended up cleaning my flatscreen TV with it.

It renders the screens as new, i tried putting the screen on background black and it was spotless.

completely OT, bathe an old speaker overnite in WD40 makes any old scratchy speaker come back to life

You should use only water and a microfibre cloth to clean LCD computer screens. LCD cleaning products streak, and Windex Ammonia/Oil-based cleaners (like WD-40) can damage the screen.

Which is the reason i tried other ways because cleaning with water and microfibre will clean everything but fingermarks, greasy spots, calc deposits from previous watercleaning. It does remove dust pretty well though.

Actually It cleans the fingerprints, marks perfectly- and that is all I use. Use want you want, but ammonia products will cause a yellow tint, and oil based can destoy the screen coating-
the LCD screens are usually coated in a very fine protective coating that some chemicals can destroy when used.

It's suggested by most manufacturers to use a dry soft cloth, however should you have a stubborn stain (like a fingerprint) you could use a moistened cloth (Use water on the cloth, don't spray on the LCD screen.)

Further still make sure when you use your cloth to be very gentle, otherwise you might cause some of your pixels to short should you press too hard.

It has also been suggested by some that WD40 can be used on LCD screens (Usually after a toddler has covered it in wax crayon, since WD40 can remove crayon) However use at your own peril, again don't spray directly onto the screen spray onto a cloth and allow it to absorb a little so it's moist.

(Don't use white spirits, bleaches etc)

The way I do it is to moisten a corner of my microfibre cloth, clean a small section at a time- then rub gently with the dry portion of the cloth. No streaks, marks gone. The trick is to clean the water up before it dries (hence small areas at a time)

got a bottle of monster cleaner free with the purchase of my HD monitor. In striking light you still see the swipe traces.

Your advice is safe and sound, so is the advice to never exceed speed limits. Must admit to having done so

However cleaning fingermarks and using water/cloth are for me at least only possible if i exert a certain amount of pressure.

I'm using WD40 now for a while, first tried it on an old monitor sofar it's still as black as can be. Blacker actually because something in the WD reduces reflection a lot. Didn't start on my flatscreen TV before being pretty sure it didnt damage the coating.

I had to admit, the screen wipes I bought for my LCD monitor don't really clear fingerprint smudges well. I have to scrub pretty hard, and I avoid that as I don't want to avoid pushing too hard on the screen.

I'll have a try with a bit of WD40 on an old 17" monitor sometime.

this how i do it:

I spray WD40 on a soft tissue (you the special soft ones for when you have cold) then a gently wipe the screen till it all shiny with the product.

Then with a second clean tissue i dry the screen in horizontal wipes till no shiny bit is left.
