Could not open my Media Player, no error codes and had just used it. I have Vista 64bit Premium Home version. After reading several posts tried a few things such as:
1) Made sure Media Player was the default (go to Start, Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Play CDs and other media automatically and select appropriate boxes to use Media Player as the default - meaning it will automatically use Media Player).
2) unplugged my MP3 player from the PC (I charge it using the PC, no problem in the past)
3) rebooted my PC
I selected Media Player and it popped right up. Apple is looking more and more attractive.
