Microsoft WPD FileSystem Volume Driver - keeps installing on boot

Most times when I start my PC, I get the message that a driver for MS WPD FileSystem Volume Driver is needed. Windows searches and installs from the Internet. Takes a couple of minutes. Doesn't seem to do any harm, but it's really annoying.
What is this driver, and why does it keep reinstalling?

I see it seems no one else has this problem but us. I keep having the same issue. Yes you are correct it is annoying. Surely someone has and answer.

I've sort of come up with a solution - go back to XP!
I'm astonished how much faster everything is.

I am having exactly the some problem -= what i also notice is that every second time it installs ok but i noticie no difference in performance - did you get any helpful advice?

Wow! I'd forgotten all about this.
Since posting, I went back to XPx64 which I'm still working with.
However, I've also installed Vista x64 a second time on the same PC in dual boot just to see if Vista ever gets good enough to bother working with (not to date).

I'm not getting the problem any more - the only difference is that I'm running Vista BUSINESS SP1 now, whereas before I was running Vista ULTIMATE.

I've no way of knowing whether it's SP1 or the change of version that has removed the error.

I'm having this problem on my HP Pavilion Laptop. Vista Home Premium. UGH Nope, I can't go back to xp. I spent a lot of money on this new system which came with this OS. Get it together Gates.

Go to Device manager and uninstall it then restart the computer it should re install and work fine.

I've had to go back to Vista (XP install gone gaga), and this problem appeared again.
Looks like it's to do with my card reader - a cheapo 15 in 1 reader bought 5 or 6 years ago.
The reader appears as 4 devices in device manager. Disabling Compact Flash (CF) solves the problem. All the others install correctly once CF is disabled.

For the record, I downloaded BIOSAgentplus, updated all drivers. Then changed AVG 8 for a different AV. Vista works pretty well now.

Hi Andrew,

If that is indeed the case and your card reader is causing the problem then I suggest that you replace it. They are relatively cheap these days and most also offer support for the newer SD standard, SDHC, which I very much doubt that your current reader has.

Yes, you're right. Come to think of it, I did have problems with a micro-SD in one of those adaptors - couldn't read or write.
Not a priority right now, most of the time I just use USB to my camera or phone, and my laptop has a built-in reader that seems to work with SDHC.
