don't know how it's happened but 1 user account on the vista enabled pc has lost it's desktop icons & taskbar

vista reports missing dll files as

logeofln.dll
ctlgtaxm.dll
mlii.dll
fccba.dll

have done a system restore but that didn't cure it

other user accounts are not affected

These files appear not shipped with vista.
they are located in the temp dir means they are created on the fly.
They may belong to 3rd party apps or generated by virus.

I'm using AVG Free Edition and it reports no virus

any others I should try?

Not very sure about AVG. I have tried it once, it appears cannot find out some hidden virus and spywares. A Kaspersky can take out much more malware than AVG, in my opinion.

You can try Autoruns (google it and dl it) to see which apps are started after login. U'd better snap a screen to show what u get.
Hope this helps.

which bit of "everything" as it's massive? probably 5 to pics

text file any good?

Not sure which part of "everything" can do things in justice.
Anyway, autoruns provides a way to store your scan result as a text file.
Meanwhile, ask your vendor or call microsoft for help.
