Motherboard/memory compatability...

i'm planning on buying an SLI capable motherboard soon and was wondering if i needed to buy SLI compatible memory or just as long as i get the type of memory that's compatible with my motherboard i will be fine?

The JDEC do not have a spec for "SLI Memory", and therefore "SLI Memory" is almost pure marketing fluff - all that means is the maker tested the same EPP ('Enhanced Performance Profile') you can get with any high performance memory on an SLI system. They then charge more for the same stuff, give a portion of the extra charges to nVidia for licencing fees to use the "SLI" brand on the sticks, and pocket the rest.

So use your good sense: If you have an overclock planned, buy RAM that is guaranteed to function at the Front Side Bus speeds you intend to run. DDR2 800 is plenty good for a 24/7 overclock setup, as it supports a 1600 Mhz FSB at 1:1. If you intend on running a plain old 1066 FSB, you only "Need" DDR2 533. The newer Intel chips with a 1333 Bus would 'need' 667 stuff. DDR2 is cheap, tho, and if you want something faster than you need, feel free.

i was pretty much thinking that SLI wasn't really needed for memory but just had to make sure so that helped alot.
