msvcp71.dll

I'm getting messages on restarts that says "this application has failed to start because msvcp71.dll was not found".

Can someone help me find it?

Have you installed any programs recently? msvcp71.dll isn't specifically for one program, on my computer it is associated with HTC Sync and TVersity Media Server

This past week my Norton protection ran out. My IP was offering free internet security for its customers. I downloaded it and that's when i started having problems. I called my IP and they transferred me to a security representative. He had me check this, uncheck that, delete this, delete that. After two hours on the phone I said "enough is enough"! I went in and uninstalled the complete security package. But i still get the messages. I have since installed 2011 Norton internet security.

It seems to be associated with Cyberlink power cinema and Cyberlink media library.

Please remove Norton with their designated removal tool:

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool to remove your Norton 2006 product or later version | Norton Support

Then use CCleaner to remove the remnants:

Then install MSE:

Virus, Spyware & Malware Protection | Microsoft Security Essentials

Most often a registry or malware problem
Run a full scan antivirus
Download and run a scan with malwarebytes
If negative
Try a system restore from before the problem

Sorry to interject with an off-topic question, but why is it that you can't help with malware removal while taking the course? I saw someone else saying that a while back and thought it was just some sort of personal thing.

Its in Richard's (neimiro) sig, in fact the text is identical. Rather then listen to my waffle, here's what's said about it on the GeekU website:

No Malware Removal Until Graduation – As a trainee, you are only allowed to help victims with their malware removal under supervision of an instructor. This includes not only this site, but other sites as well. Until graduation, you only know enough to be dangerous. It also reflects poorly on this site if you’re offering poor advice elsewhere while training here. I'm back! My PC crashed but I'm back now. Thanks for your help tom982 and richc46. Everything I tried was aborted before completion. I kept getting error messages. Finally it got to the point where I couldn't get on. I was getting a boot path error. So I got my recovery disc out and reinstalled vista. It's no big deal. Starting over is part of life.
