there are so many things that can cause this. can you give us an example? use the built in snipping tool (type snipping in search) to make a screenshot and upload it to us using the attahment tool (see pic) in the reply form?

First you have to scan your system using a reliable antivirus, then try "RUN" .exe not "SAVE" while downloading the software, because some viruses corrupt any saved setups.

i've just tried that and there are no signs of the .exe files working

technically speaking, when you click 'Run' instead of save, it just downloads it to a temporary folder. you can delete the temporary folders from Disk Cleanup. so either way, it is not a virus.

You could attempt a system restore. Is it only when you attempt to install LimeWire? You could also try downloading it and saving it to another location such as your desktop.

nope its when i try to install all .exe files

Im in the process of restoring my vista now(Using one of my old, old compaq laptops now) but i have encountered new problems

every time i try to re-install vista it shutdowns automatically
