Solved .net client update stalled, user initiated rolled back

to start with, the issue isnt classed as pressing or urgent, more along the lines of idle curiosity.

ok, downloaded the update to paint.net today, installed, it said I needed the 3.5 sp1 client, it proceeded to download, and then install.

one half hour later its still at 40%, and showing no signs of progressing any time soon. I clicked cancel, thus initiating an automatic rollback. though it took ANOTHER half hour to rollback, which it appears to have successfully done.

my question is simple.

shouldnt I have a visible .net framework installation in my add/remove programs screen? or is there an inbuilt edition that comes with windows vista home premium x64?

for the record, paint.net 3.0.7(the old version I was updating from) is fully functional, the rollback reinstalled the old version automatically.

system specs:
intel core 2 duo @2.0ghz
500gb harddrive
4gb ram
intel graphics media accellerator
idt pc audio.

installed user programs:
firefox 9.0.1
google chrome, current build
yahoo messenger 11
pidgin instant messenger
open office 3.0
winamp
vlc media player
paint.net

panda cloud antivirus
spybot sd

Hello, use your Microsoft Update program and have it check for updates, you should have SP2 and all updates current which would include the net frameworks , up to a net framework 4

Your Control Panel, in System should show you with SP2 , do you have up to the SP2 installed ?

I just found where my .net framework installation is located, which is the point.
