Hello there, sorry really to bother all of you but I figured you would be the people to ask, see I am hoping to get a new graphics card for my Birthday and am really unsure of what I shoud be looking at but my current Ati Radeon Sapphire 1550 is dying, I would like a significant upgrade too, I would just like to know the most powerful, though best suited graphics card for my pc..

2 +12v rails. One @ 14A and a second @ 15A. 425W is the Wattage yes. My Psu is a Jeantech.

I'm from London, with about £150 to spend..

if so, that PSU is a real cause for concern, especially with the newer cards....

i'd recommend a GTS250, or a HD4850 for the £150 bracket, but these cards will struggle with that power unit...:(

is there no way you could save for a few more weeks & buy a better PSU & card at the same time..??

does that PSU even have a dedicated 6pin connection for a 3rd party GFX card..??



& where abouts in london are you..??

I do, game, though not with many different games, I run the Elder Scrolls 4:Oblivion, often with mods enabled. So basically thats all I want to run. Perhaps the game 'The Witcher' in the near future.

Yes I do have a Pcix16 slot.

How much would a new decent powersupply cost, I don't have much more than a now £200.. So I may not be able too. I don't really want an amazing card. Just a decent improvment on my old one.

hm.... you could get the 3870 and a good psu very easily for 200
look for a cosair or thermaltake around 600 to 800 watts

A $150 (US) video card bought in the US would cost $105 pounds (150 x .70 = 105). On the other hand, that same $150 video card would cost 215 US dollars (150 x 1.44 = 216) in the UK!

The newer Graphics cards require both a separate 6 pin and 8 pin connection. One 8 pin is used by the motherboard and many older power supplies do not have the option of another 8 pin. This will limit you on options for graphics cards. As it is your birthday, you might mention this and perhaps a few more family members will pitch in and get you both the power supply and graphics card. The ATI 2600 PRO simply plugs in and requires no extra power connection. It also is able to run Blue Ray and is available for about $40 US dollars. It is a cheap solution and an upgrade as a stand alone graphics card. You can save some more money and upgrade to a better power supply first and then add the best graphics card that meets your wishes. I have the 2600 PRO on my XP OS PC with the Gigabyte MB for my wife's PC. At the 512MB it works very well. Any major graphics card will require a better power supply to handle it. That is what I suggest. With the saved money you might find a great deal on a power supply that has rails.

Get something cheap for now so you can decide what you want to do with the PC later. Nvideo and ATI are both great so either one will work as the two top notch cards. The main issue is getting the power supply to handle future upgrades. This proper power supply will save you money and a headache later on.

I would start with a better power supply and a lessor video card. PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750W is a great choice.
