New hard-drive ?

Ok now I have got to the point of tossing my computer out the window... I am thining about putting a new hard drive into my computer ....
What would the steps be if i had to do that...
And also can anyone recommend one to me. I do not store anything in it have an external for files so can be around a 120gig

you have a laptop or desk top?

Edit: saw your specs so laptop it is. getting a new HD is simply a matter of chosing the size and the speed (7200rpm is better). to install it in your laptop is relatively easy if you are somewhat handy. You just plug it in and install an operating system. It gets more comlicated if you want to transfer the OS from one HD to another.

So i just open up laptop ,slide in new hard drive and boot with op cd to install?
Thought it was more difficult that that :P

Since i am going to buy a new hdd . Just put my laptop hdd into my desktop via usb. Deleting all files on it. Once I have connected my laptop back up would i be able to run a new os on it? Or would i need some files on it at least?

just make sure you have a vista dvd handy and you will be able to clean install vista on the nre HD. you can use the old HD for an external HD that you can feryy back and forth between the 2 computers

You can't. Either the media came with your computer or you will need to ask the manufacturer if they will provide one free or at a cost.

Or purchase from a company such as newegg.com

Ok formatted the hdd and put it back together in my laptop. Tryn to boon vista ultimate disk into it but coming up - CDBOOT : Couldn't find BOOTMRG
Wat dose this mean any ways round that ?

Can you boot another CD properly (such as Knoppix). Just as a test.

Yes its a full install cd. Installed it on the computer i am using.
And i will need to wait till i get to the shops to get more dvd disks .
Wat is Knoppix?

Computers fixed now. Sent to acer and got the HDD wiped properly and a new fan :D
