New Motherboard/No Sound

Hi,

I recently got a new motherboard for my computer to fix the BSOD's I was getting (the motherboard i had previously was faulty) however now Realtek HD Audio Manager has disappeared and i cant seem to get any sound out of my computer, apart from when I use a pair of USB headphones that don't connect to the standard audio jacks on the back and front of the computer (they connect to the USB).

I thought this would be a simple fix just remove Realtek (did that) and go and find another copy to install but i cant find/work out what i need ... i downloaded several different drivers and they all did nothing. How do I reinstall Realtek HD Audio Manager to manage my speakers?

Is the new motherboard the one that is listed in your specs, or is it different?

If all you are using is the USB headphones you don't need the Realtek driver, as the USB headphones will make no use of it at all.

Thanks for the quick reply, I re-installed the drivers twice following your guide Dwarf, and the system tells me the drivers are up to date and working fine but still when I plug in my speakers using a 9mm plug nothing happens. Previously Realtek HD Audio Manager popped up and asked me what i had plugged in but now it does nothing, not giving me any prompt that i have inserted anything into the jacks on the back of the computer.

I should also tell you that the speakers work fine when plugged into other computers and i-pods so the speakers are not an issue, and that my usb headphones still work fine. I use my computer for a whole range of sound editing so i need to get my speakers and all other sound gear talking to the computer (unfortunately USB headphones are not enough stormy13 ).

If I was to sum up the problem i would say its like my realtek audio manager has just completely disappeared... even though it has the drivers there.

Thoughts?

Check to see if the Auto Detect feature is enabled in your sound/Realtek HD Audio Manager, control panel.

I dont have anything like that in my control panel, the realtek audio manager has just disappeared? Its like the program is no longer there. Can I re-install this?

When you go to Start > Control Panel > Sound, and open that, what is you default playback sound device ?.
Also in Control Panel > Add & Remove programs, is you sound manager there ?, if so un-install it, then re-install it.
Try this and post your results.

The default playback device is "Digital Output Device (SPDIF)". My sound manager is not there. It does have Realtek High Definition Audio Driver, but there seems to be no manager of any kind. I don't know where i can get this from so I can't install it again?
