Hello, im new to the forum & ive joined up as i have a problem which I am unable to resolve so am hoping that some1 here will be able to help me.

The problem: When i download a program to use, after i click open & it downloads to 100% nothing happens, the program doesnt run & also it doesnt go anywhere. Ive tried saving to a specified location but nothing is saved. Is there a box somewhere which needs to be clicked?

It wont let me run any new programs or any software updates for existing programs?

I hope someone can help

Did you go into your browser and give it a specific folder to download to ?

Have you tried to run it, instead of download, from the site you get the file ?

Only thing I can think of is to log into the hidden admin account, see tutorials for how to activate it, and try a download there.

If it still doesn't work, you might have a trojan or virus.

Not sure how to run a virus/trojan checker in this instance, if you cannot download and run from the hidden administrator account.

I'd suggest going to My Computer and pressing CTRL + F... click files and folders on the left and type in the filename and hit enter. Give it a couple of minutes and you should see the file you downloaded in the right hand pane, as well as an option to open its containing folder.

It could be your security program or your firewall that stashes it away. For a test, use a safe download site like e.g. filehippo.com, disable firewall and the security program and see what happens when you specify a specific download folder. If that works, you`ll have to check the settings of the firewall and/or the security program.

Ah, yeah it could be the firewall.

I use Zone Alarm's freebie firewall. It pops up a message whenever something tries to download, or connect out to the internet. I can click on allow or deny, or select a clickie that makes the allow/deny button permanent for that one item trying to access my hard drive or go out to the internet.
