My Windows Update doesn't show me the SP1 download. I went to the support page from Microsoft (Windows Vista Service Pack 1 is not available for installation from Windows Update and is not offered by Automatic Updates) where I snipped this:

does that mean I need the driver displayed, or that SP1 doesn't work with the driver displayed?

Need help because I have a lot of driver problems with that AC'97 audio card...

Amplid:

Have you tried to download the installed manually? Here's the thread with the download links (32 & 64 bit): http://www.vistax64.com/vista-news/139953-sp1-public-download-now-available.html

I hope this helps.

Ok, so it didn't work. After like 15 minutes the Vista screen popped up and I said to run SP1 and then it just closed and nothing else, just like the installshield wizard (http://www.vistax64.com/general-discussion/142261-unable-uninstall-itunes-call-duty-2-a.html). Why does Vista act this weird??

I recommend using Microsoft's free tech support for Vista SP1. Here's the link: https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?ln=en-us&x=8&y=7&prid=11274&gprid=500921

run disk cleanup and clear all temp folders, go here and download windows installer clean up utility:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

Run it to see all those installers which have been stored.

If there are any programs who's installers have stalled without getting completed AND if they are listed there, remove them.
WARNING: If you remove installer of a perfectly installed product, you will have problems un-installing that product. So use discretion!

Re boot and fire up those installers again! Hope this helps!

I had a similar problem, no SP1 via Automatic Updates. My problem was I had SP1 RC1 installed. I had to uninstall SP1 RC1, then after a few auto updates, SP1 was available. If this is your problem you will have to go to Windows Updates and at the bottom of the page select "Installed Updates"; look by Windows Updates for the service pack and remove.
