over heating

My gateway laptop m-16 over heats a lot of the time for no reason. I keep the vents and fan clean, I have all the latest updates and rivers. I use it on a hard surface. Fan speed never increases. I wish I could up the fan speed.
any ideas???

Have you watched the task manger when it heats up? Is it running at 100%? Have you scanned for viruses?
