Solved Partitions?

hi
i am running vista home premium SP2 32 bit and have noticed that when i go to computer, it says i have 3 hard disk drives!!

vista (C) is 1.87GB free of 93.8GB which is in red, Local disk (D) is 185GB free of 186GB and Data(E) is 85.9 free of 90.9GB

i think im running out of space even though it appears i have loads

should i be doing something about this?

i've not had any errors to do with space requirements yet?

many thanks

hi richard

ive had a quick read from your link and have come to the conclusion that i have to delete partition (D) and increase (C)
is that correct?

if that is correct, it worries me that disk (D) reports as having 1GB in use, ie 185 of 186GB free

i dont want to be deleting 1GB worth of files!!!

does this sound right?

For windows to work right your system partition must have 15% free. You can uninstall programs, run ccleaner, delete restore points, move your docs to another partition, or increase your partition size but you need to do something.

I like Partition Master. Re-partioning will work however you still need to keep your computer clean because it'll run better.

hi

i am trying to use the minitool as recommended and am trying to "merge" the two partitions but get the error " this function is not supported by the home edition"

am i doing it correctly?

My Computer

When you deleted D, what exactly did you end up with??

You need unallocated space in order to extend C. Right click on the D space again (in Disk Management) and "delete Volume". Then it should work.

ok
i have deleted "D" drive which has left me with the following.....

DISK 1

*:WinRE Capacity 1.46GB Used 217MB Unused 1.25GB File system NTFS Type Primary Status None

(without re-typing the headings)
C:Vista 93.88GB 92.67GB 1.21GB NTFS Primary Active&Boot&system

E:Data 90.96GB 5.04GB 85.92GB NTFS None

DISK 2

*: 186.31GB 0GB 186.31GB Unallocated Logical None

i would love to screen grab but printscreen doesnt appear to work, sorry

lol a smilee (colon D) seems to have appeared where it should actually say "data"!! At least it was a happy one!!!

hi
i have just received my first warning that i didnt have enough disk space when i tried to update my iPhone with ios5
could somebody please walk me through the steps i need to take with the minitool partition wizard
thanks

My Computer

ok
i've managed to shrink E:Data to 48GB which has left me with 42GB of un-allocated space labeled *: on disk 1
is it possible to extend C:Vista using this unallocated space because its not obvious to me

My Computer

Hi,

The answer to that question is no!

The spare space needs to be on the original drive (As the C drive), not on another one.

ok, whats my next move then?
if i cant expand drive C any bigger than what it was originally, can i move whole programs like iTunes and my Photos, probably the two biggest users of disk space, onto disk 2?

My Computer

You must have a lot of user data on C. Why don't you move that. Try this method in this Windows 7 tutorial. It should work in Vista. Unfortunately I cannot try it out - no Vista on hand.

Hi,

Moving the pictures is one thing that can recover space, so go for it!
