Password help please

ok so i bought a gateway laptop from a pawn shop they dont have admin password....i can log in as guest..ive tried several ways to overide password but cant can anyone help me please!!!

Hello Sublime, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Since you bought this at a pawn shop, I would recommend that you do a full factory recovery to reinstall Vista. There's no telling what may be on a used computer like this. This way you will start fresh with your own administrator account with a password.

If you do not have a "Repair Computer" link like the one in the screenshot under step 4 in the tutorial below, then you may not have a recovery partition on the computer.

Did your computer come with any OEM Vista recovery discs?

no i dont have any thing...my buddy said he can reformat it but he cANT do it for a week i heard u can use ophcrack...do u know anything about that?

That program is illegal and discussing it here will get you instantly banned, so we cannot help you with that.

If you have a friend that has the same model of computer as you, you can use their OEM Recovery Disc to restore your Vista with, but use your product key number on the bottom of your laptop instead to activate it. If not, then you should be able to order a replacement copy from Gateway.

Since it is a used computer, I agree with Brink. You will want to reformat it as soon as you can. Using programs like OphCrack are not a for sure way, and even after that you cannot be sure what is installed on it. If I were you, I would DBan the whole drive, and start over fresh.

i dont have a vista disc to reformat it....this is so frustrating

If none of the suggestions on my post above are available for you, then you may have no choice but to purchase a retail copy of Vista or Windows 7 to use to install with.
