please help

/Hi guys I'm wondering if you can help me with some overclocking...
I really cant get my head around all the numbers that you need to understand to OC so Im hoping you guys can tell me what you recommend? I built my PC with the intention to leave it at stock speed untill I need to get more out of it for newer game (thats all i use it for games) please have a look at the pics and tell me what you would do...

I notice the above pic says its running at 2000mhz but im sure its supposed to be 3000mhz?

I had to replace the old video card as it decided to DIE thanks to OCUK for the free upgrade. The new one is overclocked by the manurfacturer GTX 280 Already had to swap out memory aswell as they died too but have a new brand and seems stable.

If someone could tell me what setting I need to do on my BIOS it would be a great help. Im not being lazy by asking you I really dont get the whole number crunching that needs to be done. I understand the process tho like I know RAM should be tweked after you tweek everything else..

dont worry about cpu/z says yuor cpu is automatically downclocked when its not being stressed :D

nobody here can tell yuo how to overclock your cpu , no one will want to accept responsibility for you screwing something up , its a bit rubbish i know but thats how it is , overclocking is a fantastic way of getting your system to run faster for free , and trust me on this with the right coolin (DONT try to oc your cpu on stock cooling) and the right knowlage that cpu you have there will fly , trust me ive had my grubby overclocking hands on a friend of mines pc with one

you need to research and learn properly how to overclock , dont jump in take your time mate , trust me its all worth it in the end thetr are plenty of forums that can help with specifis questions , for starters read this

that chip is screaming to be OCed......, if you can get that QX to 3.6ghz you will certainly see a difference

in order to stop your CPU downclocking you need to enter the BIOS & disable...''C1E & EIST'' functions, once you sort out your OC they can be re enabled if you wish.... they will not affect your OC its just easier to work with when they're disabled.


there are a few ''stickies'' at the top of the OCing sections that will help you locate the needed settings to OC, as stated above take it easy, go up in 10-20mhz FSB jumps, always watching the temps.... keep pushing it without touching the voltages until it fails to post, then bump up the VCORE 1 notch at a time until it does, then continue to push up the FSB....when the chip, RAM & board start reaching their thresholds you'll need to employ other voltages, but you shouldnt need to worry about those until you pass 4ghz.

that chip is good for 4ghz 24/7, & it is a MONSTER CPU......:D

i believe the stock multi on that chip is x9, so for 3.6ghz you'll need to be able to get your FSB from 333mhz to 400mhz which should be a doddle....

don't touch the RAM settings until you get a stable clock on the CPU...

if your board has no ''C.P.R.'' (BIOS parameter recall) you'll also need to make sure you have access to the CMOS jumper on the board.... though im sure the 790i does..

Your bios will automatically underclock your CPU when the speed isn't needed.

Whether you overclock your chip or not, it will still drop your FSB.

As you need the speed, your cores will begin to speed back up, and the orginal/O.C'd speeds will be at full use.

With some motherboards you can turn the setting off.
