Can someone help

I had a virus a few days ago, and manually deleted the infected files. Ever since then, i can't open files such as word, powerpoint (a message comes up saying the file does not have an associated program connected with it) etc..., and if i try and open other files (including anti malware), a box comes up asking what programme i want to open it with (adobe, internet, etc), none of which work.

Eith er the virus has knocked something off, or i deleted something i shouldn't have when i was deleting the infected file.

I have tried System restore but this doesn't work either.

Can someone help?

Thanks

Hi there

Thanks so much, i tried the EXE one and that has allowed me to access all the programs again now. Do i still need to do the lnk one as well? What's the difference?

Many thanks again

If you are working properly with the .exe fix, just use it, the way it is, unless you experience additional problems.

Thanks Rich for all you help. You've been brilliant. I do have one more problem with another laptop which you may be able to help me with. I have forgotten my password to get into the computer and am i a bit stuck. I don't have a disk to resolve the problem either. Any help would be appreciated. It is a Dell if that makes any difference
