Problem with Task Manager.

Here is my problem.

My task manager wont show up, doesn't matter if I right click on my task bar, or go with the 'ol CTRL-ALT-DEL > Task Manager.

Every so often I will see the icon pop up on the task bar (after I right click and select), but it goes away as soon as I move my mouse over it.

I searched around on the internet for this, and came across a couple things, but nothing worked. Task Manager isn't disabled, SFC /SCANNOW did nothing, anti-virus scans came up clean (also ran them in safe mode), etc. Task Manager does work in safe mode though.

I am at wits end trying to find a solution to this. Any ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Melirune, and welcome to Vista Forums.

As a test, create a new administrator account to see how it works in it. If it works ok, then you can copy over any files that you want to keep from your old account's user folders into the new account's. Afterwards, you can delete the old account from within the new one.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I just tried that, but the same thing still happens (icon shows up on task bar, but disappears when I move the mouse over it).

As a precaution, run a full antivirus and malware scan to see if you may have been infected.

If you come up clean, then it sounds like you may need to do a reinstall to fix this possible corrupted installation. Here's a link from Dell on how to do a factory restore if needed. Be sure to backup anything that you do not want to lose to be safe. :(
