Solved Reinstalling help?

I have a Gateway desktop dx4300 and there are so many problems with the activex flashplayer and when I restart I get error messages,.. I want to do a clean install, now I have the 14 cd-r's I had to create rthe day I bought my pc, how do I use these? also I had gotten as a gift vista home premium in which I really like vista most so should I use?.. the 14 discs? or the vista that was given to me new in box?

I don't know what you burned to the 14 discs. If you burned a Vista recovery disc, you should have only needed one. You would have to open each one up in Windows Explorer until you found the correct one.

If the gift version is a "retail" version, I would use that if it will let you overwrite the OEM version. You would have to use the product key that came with the "retail" version.

Is there some reason why you can't uninstall Real Player?

The operative word here is 'CD-R' - rather than 'DVD' - a backup set for Vista can run to up to 5 DVD's (Believe me! - my Acer ones did) and each holds potentially 5 times as much data as a CD.

What is the exact description of your gift box (Vista Home Premium? SP1? Upgrade? OEM?)

The major reason I want to do a reinstallment is because for no reason at all I get a message twice everytime I bootup that says my multimedia keyboard has stopped working and, also youtube and any video I play crashes because Activex is not registered on my pc and the other night it was working fine..so I wanted to do a reinstallment.

That would probably be cured by a System Restore back to a point before your problems started - have you attempted this yet?

I did but I have no restore points? could the 14 cdr discs help me? I can't waych any videos because of my plashplayer. I am using vista 64 bit home premium sp2 and I have IE 9 and my Activex control is missing, I downloaded a ActiveX.ocx file dragged it in Regsvr32 and it was sucessful but still Flashplayer still doesn install and Activex is still not registered.

This sound like it may be the result of malware.
Also - Vista doesn't use the ActiveX.ocx file so far as I'm aware (although I haven't checked) - that went out with XP (although FlashPlayer does still use that type of file - in fact 4 variants of it in my Windows 7 system!)

Go to Programs : Uninstall a Program, and uninstall FlashPlayer.
then go to Adobe - Install Adobe Flash Player and download the latest version of FlashPlayer there - install it, and see if that helps your problem.

Open Device Manager - are there any devices there showing with red X 's or yellow triangles? If so, right-click on each and select Uninstall. You may be warned of a need to reboot. If so, don't bother rebooting until you've uninstalled all such devices, then reboot, wait 10 minutes for the system to reinstall any needed devices, and reboot again.
See if that helps.

You could resintall this way. Just make sure you backup any data you don't want to lose.

If you do not have a Windows Vista installation DVD, you can download a legal copy with SP1 integrated from here:

Download Official Windows Vista RTM with SP1 Setup Files (32-bit and 64-bit).

Only Windows Vista Ultimate with SP1 (X64 or X86) download is available, but if, during the install, you do not enter the product key
when initially prompted for it (which you must have to use the download), then you will be prompted to select the version of Vista you
want to install. You can activate once the install is done.

You do need a valid installation key, which should be on the COA sticker on the computer, to activate the installation.

Windows Vista Home Basic
Windows Vista Home Premium
Windows Vista Business
Windows Vista Ultimate

Downloaded the Vista X64 or X86 files.

X64: You must be running on a 64bit (X64) system to create a 64Bit install DVD or flash drive
install.wim
boot.wim
X14-63453.exe

X86:
install.wim
boot.wim
X14-63452.exe

Double click on X14-63453.exe or X14-63452.exe. It extracts all the files into a Vista sub-folder.

Downloaded Windows Bootable Image Creator zip then extract the files to a folder.

Open the folder and run WBICreator.exe
Click Next
Select OS Type: Windows Vista
CD/DVD Label: VistaX64 or VistaX86
Setup Location: The Vista folder created when you double clicked on X14-63453.exe or X14-63452.exe.
Output Path: Somewhere with enough free space to hold the .iso file that will be created (X64 = 3,837,112KB, X86 = 3,013,816KB).
Click GO.

When done a VistaX64.iso or VistaX86.iso file will be created in the Output Path you chose.

You can use the .iso as input to a burner program like ImgBurn to create a Vista Install DVD, or you can use it as Input to
Universal USB Installer – Easy as 1 2 3 to create a Vista install flash drive.

Update: If you are going to burn a DVD to install with, you can skip the creation of the .ISO file and burn a bootable DVD to install with using ImgBurn. See the guide here for how to do this:

How to create a Windows Vista / 7 / 8 installation disc (bootable) using ImgBurn

I created a X86 flash drive and used it to install a clean copy of Vista Home Basic on my HP DV2200 Laptop. Worked great using the key on the COA sticker of the laptop.

Remember to use the X64 or X86 version of Vista you currently have.

Note: You may need to download drivers for the computer from the manufacturers web site so I would suggest getting the Network (LAN and Wireless) and video/VGA drivers ahead of time so you can install them as soon as you finish installing Vista.

Oh also, ..Would uninstalling sp2 and reinstalling the service pack fix these issues
