Remote Desktop Connection

I'm going to be taking on some pc repairs whilst on leave from the Navy. I would like to be in a position to remote access if I am back at work with the navy to resolve any further issues. Can anyone recommend the most reliable/user friendly software and any hints and tip please? Thanks in advance!!
