Resolution Problems

Hi,

I have a Samsung 2253LW wide screen monitor and the highest resolution i can get is an appauling 1280x960. I just took my computer for repair to get a new GFX card and in there shop with my comp running through an old school CRT 15inch monitor i can get a resolution of 1600x1200. As soon as i plug it back into my Samsung at home it can only reach 1280x960 againb. I have contacted Samsung and they are useless as usual. I have the latest Samsung and Nvidia drivers installed. Anybody have a solution?

Hi Joronamo,

This could be something to do with the Sync Polarity. If you look at the table below, you will see that the resolution (highlighted) you are getting is listed as having both sync components as positively polarised.

In order to get the native resolution (again highlighted), you must ensure that you have the sync polarity set as positive (horizontal) and negative (vertical).

where do i edit the sync polarity?

Hi guys, i have a similar problem, no matter whichever resolution i select, it wont cover the entire monitor. A small portion from both the sides are blank. its a 23 inch Dell FTP monitor. Please help. I also tried updating the video driver but it didnt work.

All I can say is I went to the Samsung site and loaded the 64 bit driver for my Samsung monitor. My nvidia carded detected the monitor and set the resolution to 1680x1050. Try to get the Samsung driver for the monitor you have. The 64 bit version is on their site.

For all who are having problems with their monitors, can you ensure that you have the latest drivers installed for your monitor. These are not drivers in the true sense of the word; rather they are information files which inform your system about the capabilities of your monitor. This includes minimum and maximum (optimum) resolution, refresh frequencies permitted at each resolution, and the polarity of the H and V sync required for each setting.

@ Dinesh: to fix your problem, on the actual monitor panel, click on the menu button, then hit the down arrow button until you reach the 2nd bottom icon with the control knobs icon select that then go to image size which is in the menu, and you most likely have you monitor set to narrow, change it to wide and you'll most likely get rid of the blank sides.
