In the last couple of days, I have received two suspicious emails, both deposited into my Junk Folder on downloading, and both purporting to be from PayPal, wanting financial information. Both I left unopened, however I did manage to forward a copy of one of the emails of to PayPal for evaluation, and the result....a hit!!
This is a part quote from Paypal response to me;
"Suspicious Email (KMM121706960I96L0KM) pk1"
"Thank you for contacting PayPal.
We appreciate you bringing this suspicious email to our attention. We
can confirm that the email you received was not sent to you by PayPal.
The website linked to this email is not a registered URL authorised or
used by PayPal. We are currently investigating this incident fully.
Please do not enter any personal or financial information into this
website.
If you have surrendered any personal or financial information to this
fraudulent website, you should immediately log in to your PayPal account
and change your password and secret question and answer information. Any
compromised financial information should be reported to the appropriate
parties"

You're welcome young fella! Suspicion was immediately raised when the email was delivered to an account that I do not conduct 'personal admin business' on, and when it was quickly dispatched to the Junk Folder........."alarm bells"....I just turned it around by forwarding it to PayPal, then set about deleting the original and the forwarded copy, from my files.
Give PayPal their due, their response was very prompt!

Another thing with Paypal if they do send you an email it is always addressed to you by name never just Hello Paypal user or whatever. I've send a couple of fake emails to them before now but nothing lately so I'll be on the look out now. Thanks for the warning.
I used to get many 'please click here to check your paypal account settings'. I ignore them. Along with the plethora of emails asking me to check my account settings for banks in Australia and New Zleand, where I don't have any accounts.

---along that note, I also know a nice elder-couple who 'used-to' use ebay/paypal but got hacked into their account and lost a few thou$ands, went to court and got ZERO; so now they tell everyone to just put a few-hundred-money (whatever your currency may be) into a 'separate-account' just for PayPal transactions only, (in case you do get robbed)---

Sound advice, Kiki. Someone apparently tried to hack my account and paypal wanted me to jump through so many hoops I finally told them to stuff it. When I had an account I did as you suggest. A separate account that is not tied to any other account. I even had it at a different bank, so no possibility of transferring any funds or such.
