scrambled icons

have toshiba 1 and halve year old. until about 2 weeks ago no proplem.I installed 11 microsoft up dates upon reboot,It went into low res gui then changed to correct resolution but my icons are mindlessy scrambeld system restore put them back ,but after turn off the mess is back. vista home primium 32

What were the MS updates? Have you installed any optional ones, such as for your graphics? What colour depth are you using?

1440x900 10 important securety updates i dont auto install ,becouse of reboots thats 2 or 3 days worth align off auto arange off,thanks bud

dont know how to send screen shot What i mean is computor shortcut upper left corner,launch internet explorer below that firefox below that etc. upon restart the are somewhere on the desk top but not where i left them

A quick way to capture everything on screen is to click PrtScn on your keyboard. Next, open Paint and press Ctrl + V to paste the captured image. Save this to your HDD. your tutorial for sending is exelent,but this toshiba version of vista all service pacs installed, does not math all of your tut pics and options while i will try again the proplem is i had icons on the rigth side of desk top and icons on left side none in the middle.Every time i reboot the icons are all on the left as if on a grid in a different order then i left them in. by scrambeld i mean erver since windows 98 my top left icom is my computor ,below that ie explorer. Now upon reboot top left is recycle bin below eze gig 2 This proplem is directly related to the first boot screen being: a low res orb with vista home premium 32 below then al ow res screen shot of my destop icons then blank for a second or two then my hy res orp then desktop. Had this when i first go this putor ,took me about a week to find somebody to tell me how to fix it.it was simple. but i am 65 and getting sienile! Sombody on one of the pages wrote how to write up the proplem ,wich i ran into after the fact,but now i realize i did not explain my proplem understandable sorry about that .thanks for hanging with this fool

OK. Try this. Right-click on your desktop and mouse over View. In the menu that appears, uncheck the options Auto arrange icons and Align icons to grid. The image below (from Windows 7) shows these items checked, which is how I have them.

You can then arrange your desktop icons in whatever arrangement you choose, and they should stay where you left them. If they keep moving, then check the settings for these options in any other accounts you may have on the computer.
