Have had pavillion dv9408nr home premium vista 32 notebook for 2 and a half years,no problems.Untill 3 days ago laptop would not restart after sleep .
Lights on but screen black.Started to do the same when i try to boot up from scratch ,never done that before.Takes a few attempts to boot up.
Updated the bios and a few drivers but still the same problem also tried a system restore never worked either.
Any ideas .

as a last resort you can do a system recovery, but the difference between a system restore and a system recovery is, with a system restore it will hopefully take you back to a date when you pc was running good, with a system recovery it will take you back to when you first bought the pc from the store it will erase all your files and programs, its okey if you backed up your sytem regularlyto an external drive, if you choose to do that, and you have the factory image on your hard drive, restart computer, tap f11 and when the screen say's system restore, tick no, next screen will ask do you want to do a system recovery, tick yes and follw instructions, if you have recovery discs, place first disc in drive and restart computer, then follow instructions good luck...patch41

The fact that system restore did not work would seem to indicate that it is not a problem with the OS.
You did not mention anything about your video card, you may want to check that and also check for updates

Go to the device manager and look for any yellow warning signs, indicating a problem with the video card or monitor. I would hold off on a recovery, because, I do not think that will be the solution.
