Solved Sp1

Hi All - HP Laptop Vista Home Premium

I have received notification - "Important to install Sp 1 on my computer."

Checking on the net it appears some have had audio problems after the install.

My Question: If I install Sp1 and exprience problems can the update be uninstalled
and will this correct the problem?
Another approach may be to set up a RESTORE POINT before the Install
(sometimes this is an automatic) - would that work?

I have read a rather long Troubleshooting paper on this subject - and I wonder
if I need the problem in the first place.

Thanks for any and all advice and Help.

Regards
Alf

Hello Alf, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Yes, you can uninstall the Vista SP1 if it caused any problems afterwards.

Creating a restore point before you install it, and a System Restore to it should work as well.

It is usually best to always install a service pack update to have the latest patches, updates, and to improve security. I found it best to not install any other listed Windows Update when installing the SP1 to help avoid any potential conflicts between them.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

If SP1 does cause any issues with your audio drivers, don't uninstall it right away. First is to check the card (or motherboard manufacturer if onboard) for updated drivers that came out after SP1.

If there aren't any and your sound card is one of those that has/had problems with SP1, one workaround that I have seen and worked for most that had the issue, is to uninstall the audio drivers before installing SP1 and then installing the drivers back after SP1 is installed.

stormy13 -Hi

Interesting info -

I do not really know if I will have a problem, however deleting drivers and reinstalling is one thing I have done in the past -Thanks for the reminder.

I will check for updated drivers - another good tip

Thanks

Hi All:

Futher follow up and info to installing MS SP1 - not having much luck.

The SP1 does not seem to install on this computer ,no problem running the program
seems to complete the download. However when I check the control panel (etc)
nothing has happened. Checking the download site on the computer the Service
Pack 1 install item appears to be gone (strange).

In addition to my confusion -I have Belarc Advisor that I use for info from time to time - I checked Belarc before I began to download (SP1) and the Advisor indicated that SP1 was a required (critical) download. Checking the Advisor
after downloading SP1 it was not shown as installed, neither did it show as being
a required download (also strange)

Gonna wait for a day or so - SP1. may reappear again - Vista can work oddly at times.

regards
Alf

Hi Alf,
You can check that from control panel->system &maintenance->system as well.
If it's not installed, you could try the standalone SP1.

Hi brummyfan

Thanks for the info- not sure what "standalone" is, my guess is to download and
install (save) from MS download web site. if that's correct I looked into that and
it seems MS does not recommend that procedure for single computer install.

I'll just take a look tomorow perhaps it may show up as a download........but at this point it sure is not installed on this computer.

My Computer

Hi All: Yep SP1 showed up again as a required download. I gave it another try.
This time all went well. No apparent problems, computer seems to be running
okay.

I had originally (before I tried to Install SP1) updated the audio driver.
That may have helped some - didn't hurt.

Thanks for the info and help.
