Strange issue with my HCPC linked to plasma

I have recently built a top spec HCPC consisting of the components in my signature.

All is running like a dream with all drivers fully up to date.
I have just connected it to my Panasonic Plasma using the second DVI-D output from my Graphics card and a DVI-D - HDMI lead.
The two displays have been found ok and the software adjusted according , the problem is that all that is displayed on my Plasma (Hdmi 2) is the desktop picture I have on monitor one (the Hewlett Packard).
No desktop icon are displayed nor any pictures / movies etc. It just sees the picture I use as desktop background.

It must be an easy solution , I just haven't found it!!!!!

You really haven't stated what it is you are trying to accomplish here. But I'll assume you are trying to display what is on your primary monitor on your TV (Clone mode). From the sounds of it your TV is being detected and setup as an extended display by the nvidia control panel. If you move your mouse all the way to the right does it show up on your TV?

I can't remember off the top of my head where the setting is (I run ATI now), but take a look in the nvidia control mode for Clone mode or something along those lines.

The Plasma shows the photo I have as my desktop but nothing else. No shortcuts , taskbar or cursor are shown .
The Nvidia control panel is set up for dual monitors but I want them as independant monitors not clones. If this is not possible I will clone.

It sounds like you are trying to do you setup much the way I have mine, I use my HDTV as an extended display and it works great.

Can you post a screen shot of either (or both) the Windows Display settings or the one from the nvidia control panel?

You are setup CORRECTLY.

In dual monitor setups, UNLESS you specify different wallpaper for each monitor, it will become just a screen with the same wallpaper as the first. HOWEVER, start a web browser, for example, and DRAG IT OVER to the other monitor or in your case, TV. Once you do this, the computer will remember that's where you want it to be.

So, once you have started yourvideo player and drag IT over to the TV, it *SHOULD* also remember where you want it.

It is not practical (nor do I think possible) to have "independent" populated working desktops. Think of it this way.... you cannot drive TWO cars at one time, nor pull the same trailer with TWO vehicles.

Cloned mode simply duplicates the desktop, when you click something on the LEFT, it also does it on the RIGHT, because it is basically a mirror.

If dual active desktops WERE possible, imagine this:

Let's say we drop to a command prompt on the LEFT monitor / desktop. You type FORMAT A: and have a blank floppy inserted.

On the RIGHT monitor you do the same thing except you want to format a brand new external HD which is drive H:

An interesting thing would happen, which is namely, you cannot tell the system to open TWO command windows. Why? Because it can only take orders from one place at a time. Try it... open a command window, and then try opening another.

Bzzzzt. No sale.

Have BOTH displays active. Let's say, the PC on the left, the TV on the right.

On your LEFT monitor (The PC monitor), start your DVD player, Web Browser, or whatever. When it's up, do NOT maximize it, just leave it in a normal window.

Place your mouse cursor in the Blue Bar at the very top of the application or browser. Hold the LEFT mouse key down and literally DRAG the whole window over to the RIGHT display (The TV) and place it somewhere in the middle of the screen.

Release your mouse button and VOILA! It's there.

Now you can maximize the window if you like, or simply stretch it to the size you want.

Whatever apps you use, they SHOULD all remember that you placed them on the RIGHT screen, so that whenever you sue them, they will re-open in the correct place.
