Slammer, AV programs are like beer or wine. Either you like it or you don't. There were many, many pages of discussion about what is the best AV program. None of those were conlusive.
I go a bit by some of the tests and my own experience - but that is not gospel. Other people may have made different experiences. Rich always gives good advice and you should value his input. If you are happy with MSE, that is all that counts.
I found, that imaging is the only precaution that really protects you against disaster - malware or other. That is why I religiously take my images every 3d day so that I have a clean fallback point.
