Task Scheduler is not available

This is an old thread on the news groups but the answers haven't solved my problem. When trying to run Vista backup, I am told that Task Scheduler is not available. I checked in Services to see what it's dependendancies were to check they were started. Dedencies are Remote Procedure Call, DCOM Server Process Launcher and Windows Event Log.

All of these services are started and yet Task Scheduler does stilll not function. What is my next step please?

Thanks

Dave

Thanks for the response. Task Scheduler is not working. When I go into Services and try and start it, I get the error 'Windows could not start the Task Scheduler on local computer. Error 2: the system could not find the file specified'.

I have tried all three links that you gave but without success.

Thanks for your help,

Dave

Hello

I would do the following first.

1. Run a full updated virus scan using your AV...
2. Download and run a full scan using malwarebytes, free version..
Malwarebytes

Make sure you don't have a virus or malware on your system...

If all else fails you can do a system restore, not a factory restore. What you do is do the system restore by going back at least 5 days before the problem started. Here's how.

Keep us informed about your progress and if you have a problem or do not understand the tutorials then post us back and we will help...

Hi and thanks for your help so far.

I have run a updated virus scan and Malwarbytes scan and both came back clear. System Restore would only give the opportunity to go back just over a week, whereas I would need at least a month to go back to a point where Task Scheduler was still working. The history of the difficulties is that I had a crash that I tried to get out of, was unsuccessful and therefore paid for a local PC firm to have a look. They had it for two weeks before they could look at it and then a further 5 days to scan it and remove unwelcome stuff. They handed it back to me saying they were still not completely happy but as I had been without the machine for 3 weeks and needed it back they let it go with some reservations. They did say take it back if I am still not happy but I don't fancy losing it for more time. I thought I would try the forum route first but may have to resort back to PC firm.
