Task Scheduler

I made this registry entry as described. As I am continually searching for a final solution to this problem I wanted to mention this to you.In TS library for both "RAC" and "System Restore" they are both showing "enabled" but under the "settings tab" all the settings are greyed out.Is this any kind of a clue?

Do you have a backup scheduled for a certain time everyday? If you do, where is the backup supposed to go? Another drive, CD, partition?

There are two "triggers" for system restore...at system startup...9:45pm each day...However under the "settings tab" the first listed box is ...allow task to run on demand....it shows a "check mark" but it is greyed out. This does not look normal to me

Tell me where your scheduled backups are going. To a USB external device?
Something has become corrupted in the registry and the backups are failing possibly due to faulty hardware.

Going to request another log ...

  • Download random's system information RSIT
    http://images.malwareremoval.com/random/RSIT.exe
  • It is important that is saved to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)

My scheduled back ups would be stored on "disk c" as I do not have any external storage device hooked up.I did not have any success with rsit.exe as it seemed very erratic.I tried it 5 times after deleting it and d/l again after the 2nd attempt. It would open and then go into a non responding state.Once it progressed to where it asked to accept the license for hjt and on another attempt it got where it showed about 75% complete on the status bar and showed "listing services and drivers" and again it failed to complete went to non responding. Is there any kind of a work around for this rsit.exe?

It should work. It works on both my Vista and Win 7.

Edit ... Please do this for me. Flush the DNS cache, and restore Ms's Hosts file. Do this before downloading RSIT again:

Copy and paste these lines in Note pad.

@Echo on
pushd\windows\system32\drivers\etc
attrib -h -s -r hosts
echo 127.0.0.1 localhost>HOSTS
attrib +r +h +s hosts
popd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
netsh int ip reset all
shutdown -r -t 1
del %0

Save as flush.bat to your desktop.Right click to run as Administrator. Your computer will reboot itself.

Just to let you know how I feel ... You have been having a problem since January, it's now March. There was a scheduled task that didn't go work (not to mention the malware) and it obviously has corrupted the Library files.

I don't know what the task was and so at this point, if this was my computer.... I'd make a backup of my pictures, paid for music, and documents that I'd like to keep.

I would then take the computer back to "factory install" and start over again.

Now, did this computer come with Vista pre-installed? Did you do any type of 'upgrade' at all?

I wish I could have helped you more for free, but the ultimate decision is yours. ;)

Thank you for sticking with me and doing all I asked of you. You're a star! Good luck in the future. Vista is (despite what other's might say) a good OS when working properly. :D
