I appreciate the help here, I am trying to figure out what to do.
I currently have Vista 64 on a 5-year-old hard drive. I'm starting to think about changing things. I'm thinking of removing the old drive before it fails, rather than have it in any setup and have to fix it at an inconvenient time.
I currently have 4 drives. The old drive with the OS, two WD drives now in RAID 0, and a Seagate 5400 rpm drive with 1.5TB storage.
I was considering doing the two WD drives as RAID 0, with Vista, and everything else, on it. I would then keep the old drive just for the pagefile and temporary storage, and the Seagate big but slow drive for backup.
Now, after reading some post from SCSIraidGURU, I'm not sure the RAID 0 is worth the small bit of increased speed. I could then set up the two WD drives as RAID 1, with the pagefile either on the WD RAID 1 drives or one of the other drives, or without RAID as separate drives and put the OS on one and the pagefile on the other. I somewhat feel though that with the RAID 1 I am "wasting" one of the drives. Of course, it isn't a $1K drive, but it still seems bothersome. I am a bit confused if the RAID 1 may possibly be ever so slightly quicker with reading data too.
Currently I'm not upset with the speed that VISTA operates, I guess it helps that there is 8GB of RAM. So too, I'm thinking that the pagefile really isn't that important in my case, so it won't be as beneficial to give up a RAID 1 just to get the pagefile on the other WD drive.
