Welcome
May I suggest do not disable the UAC. I agree its a real pain, but its there for your protection. You come home from work and had a bad day, you are on the computer (without UAC), and you perform a task that you should not have. You could have major problems. I consider myself quite proficient with Vista and keep the UAC on.
If you still want to disable it, keep a current Macrium Image, just in case. Macrium Reflect FREE Edition - Information and download
Keep the image on an external hard drive. Then in the event of a problem you can reinstall in 15 minutes with the image.
Good luck
I wholeheartedly agree with Rich--do NOT disable UAC. Frankly, it's easy to get used to typing in a password.
There is one way to help minimize the effort. On the next laptop you get, make sure it has a fingerprint reader. I use mine all the time (this is a 2007 model laptop mind you) and it makes logging on effortless.
I agree about leaving UAC enabled but unfortunately users still have to be proactive in their use. For example if when browsing the web they get a pop up followed by a UAC prompt if they hit ok there is still the potentially that the pop up downloaded malware. By accepting the UAC prompt the executable is still allowed to run infecting the user's computer.
