Unable to Download anything

This is driving me absolutely crazy and I'd really appreciate some help with it ya'll.

System Info:
Windows Vista Business 32bit; Intel Core duo
Dell Precision m4300

Problem:

When I click on ANY link to download (dropbox for this example) I get the standard box.

-You have chosen to open
-Dropbox
-Which is a: BINARY FILE <//---- every thing i try to download seems to be this now instead of 'application' etc.//>
- rest of the file information
-save buttons
------------------

So when i go to save the file it downloads everything stupid fast as a .exe file which i cannot open or for that matter even find anywhere on my computer.

It does this with everything including windows updates.

I assume you get this from your browser. Which one are you using? Upload a screen shot of the download window where you're getting the binary file message you quoted - see How to use the Snipping Tool in Vista - Vista Forums and Vista Forums - FAQ: Attachments. Wouldn't hurt to read the rest of the FAQ while you're at it.
