Update Problems

Hi there,

I've been having update problems with my Vista Home Premium x64 the last few months. Basically what is happening is that there are multiple installs of the same updates, and then once in a while update will ask me to once again install said updates. This happens on and off, randomly it seems.

Until the other day, when I downloaded some new updates. Now one continually wants me to update even though its been "successfully" installed according to the update manager.

The update in question is KB937287 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937287); a prerequisite for SP1 it seems. Viewing update history indicates this update has been installed 3 times, and all are successful - but I've just checked again and once more its asking me to download and install this update.

The previous updates I had trouble with are:

windows live mail x 3
windows photo gallery x 3
windows live toolbar 3.01 x 3
windows live writer x 3

Anyone got any ideas how to fix this?

What firewall are you using? If you're using Comodo, make certain you have the latest version. There was a bug in the previous versions that interfered with Windows Update.

just using the standard windows firewall, and even with that off I still download, install successfully and then vista asks me to install that update after checking for new updates.

Thanks very much, that seems to have fixed it :)

I also downloaded manually the other updates that were continually being re-offered for download, so hopefully that will fix those too.

Just worried about all the repeat updates on the list ... it won't cause any trouble will it? With all those same updates on the list as "successful"?
