USB Security

Is there any type of software that completly protects USB thumb drives. I mean encrypts contents and wont even let you format without the correct password?

I have been seeing USB thumbdrives come with 256bit encryption lately. I was assuming this software comes on these USB sticks?!?!?

I think maybe BitEncryper that comes with Vista Ultimate might work?

The USB thumb drive I bought didnt come with pre-loaded security
