Solved Using a WinVista Computer to Edit Files on a Win10 Computer

I have an Archer C7 router that is currently connected to an HP Win10 computer, an Acer Win10 computers, a wireless Win7 laptop, and to the internet via a cable modem. I also have a WinVista computer that is currently not connected to anything except a monitor and a scanner. The WinVista computer has CorelDraw 12 installed on it.

I would like to use the WinVista computer to open a Corel file from the HP Win10 computer, make some changes to the file, and then save it back to the HP Win10 computer.

Where can I find instructions for connecting those two computers? (The WinVista computer does not seem to have what I need, and I do not want to connect it to the internet.)

Instead of the back and forth, you could install CorelDraw on the Win 10 system by setting the compatibility mode for the installation file to Vista or XP.

Otherwise, you would need to have a wi-fi adapter on the Vista system and set up file sharing on the Win 10 and Vista network. Off the top of my head, I don't know how to disable internet using that setup except to not have a browser.

The simplest way would be to use a USB drive. Additionally You can use a USB cable if you can find one with Vista drivers. You have to have enough networking skills to manually assign ipaddresses, a subnet mask, and gateway to each computer. Your router will do this automatically. Also you cannot use a regular ethernet cable for that nor can you use that cable to connect your computer to a router.

I like that but the wi-fi would, in my mind be easiest since you're simply using a router. You can then use file sharing. I saved the following procedure for file sharing between Win 7 and Vista from a magazine. I assume that the router was connected to the Win 7 system and it used the Win 7 network. In this case he would substitute Win 10 for Win 7.

In Win 7-

Go to Network and Sharing

Change Advanced

Turn on Network Discovery

Turn on File and Printer sharing in the Home Profile

Turn off Password

In Vista

Open Network and sharing

Turn on Network Discovery

In Sharing and Discovery, turn on Network Discovery, File sharing and public sharing



Go back to Win 7-

Open Libraries

Network

Click Network

In Vista-

Network- discovery, click network, Win 7

I'd really be interested in how it turns out. I've that article for about 10 years and never tried it. On the other hand, my Vista machine has the router attached and the Win 7 system is a client.

If you have one, or can get one, a USB drive would be the simplest.
