Vista and XP Dual boot help

I'm running Ultimate 64. I want to install XP on a second hard drive but when I get here,like the keyboard no longer works! No ENTER, R OR F3 works!

I changed keyboards,so that isn't it.
Any advice? Thanks!

Is the keyboard on a USB hub or other splitting device? If so, plug it directly into the USB.
EDIT: You will have to reboot to notice a change.

If it's a PS/2 thing, I'm out of ideas.

Thanks for the reply. Yes,it's connected to the back of the PC. USB, both wireless and wired. And I did reboot.

buy a ps2 keyboard for this! some of the usb ones do not work for some reason! 10$'s at wal-mart will have u set for life.

You may have to allow usb keyboards (or USB's in general) in your BIOS. If not you might want to think about slipstreaming your XP cd, so that you can have all the Service packs and drivers as soon as XP starts to load. a good link is here, it takes a little bit of effort, but its worth it.
also you can try to put the USB in different inputs, ie the front instead of in the integrated motherboard, this can occasionally help.

lol, And where do I plug it in? This here is a 2009 PC. No ps2 plugs.
Never had trouble installing Vista Or Wind 7. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Let's see. I unplugged my 'C' drive, which has Vista. That leaves one blank hard drive that's been formatted. I reboot with XP cd in tray. It loads. When I get to that window. the keyboard won't accept work.

This here computer is better then that 2009PC and it has a ps2 plug! And from my dealings with xp pro, I have never got a usb keyboard to work.

K,I'm glad your PC is better than mine. I still don't have nowhere to plug it in.

as I said, try plugging it in to a USB port that's not at the back of your PC, maybe the front ones.
And once again, you might have to slipstream your XP cd to get the drivers loaded for your keyboard during the installation

I tried the front and the back. I'm leaving slip streaming as a last resort.

did you try the bios settings yet?
what type of motherboard and model do you have?
and what type of keyboard?
try reflashing the bios.
or even just vmware xp
what are the main choices for having xp on there?
if its not crucial, Vmware player helps to install other OS's virtually and its free:

I just looked at your system specs, I think I found your problem mate... you have a dell. man hard luck, hard luck.
take out one of your graphics cards, see if that helps
also you might have to get a driver for your tv, go to the manufacturers website to try and get drivers for it so that you can use it as a monitor

Just looked at your flags. omg, not another aussie! lol
No offense, I like aussie's. Mate,what does the graphics cards Tv/Monitor have to do with my problem? The keyboard is a Saitek Gaming keyboard. Don't need a driver for the Tv. The PC doesn't have a tunercard.

sorry man, I think I was trying to reply to 2 posts at once lol. someone else had a problem with the resolution you had, and I was replying to both in the one post, dont know why... anyway

how did the bios go mate? i know when I built my pc I had to change some settings in the bios to get xp on my pc by allowing usb's to act as PS/2's
it worked, but what is the main reason for you using windows xp?

Don't like vista. I like Gaming. Vista bad for gaming. Win 7 is even worse. Didn't see nothing in the BIOS.

That is probably because the bios dell provides doesnt allow an awful lot of tweaking... the reason why windows 7 is so much worse is because it hasnt had the Direct X11 API installed on it yet, so it is essentially running the same as vista with DX10. try gamebooster, you should notice a difference for vista

OK Guy's,I got it fixed sort of. I was trying to install XP Home Edition, but it wouldn't let me. So I had a XP Pro laying around and said 'Hell why not try it'? Boom! it worked.

What didn't work was EasyBCD 1.7.2. So I don't have dual boot. But that's OK! As long as XP is working,I don't care. Save some wear and tear on Vista hard drive by keeping it unplugged. Everything looks like it should in Easy BCD.

You may have better results with BCDedit (built in). I think there is a tutorial on it in fact.
