Vista changed Hard Drive icon...

Hi, not sure if im in the right place..but, Vista seems to have changed my second HD where I keep all my media into a CD Drive, the icon has changed to a CD drive icon in My Computer and the desktop shortcut now asks for a Disc to be inserted when I try to access it...:mad: The C drive remains unaffected. Anyone got a fix for this?.

Are you sure your HD is still attached to the PC?

Check in Disk Management if the Drive Letters haven't changed.

I could not say if it's become unattached, but there is no reason for it to come loose, the drive is still listed as G, but it's "CD Drive G" now...when it used to be "My Media G" in My Computer..how do I get to Disc Management?

Right Click 'My Computer' -> Manage -> Disk Management.

Just press DEL when you boot your PC, just keep pressing DEL (keep pressing, not holding), and then you'll see all the IDE/S-ATA drives listed in the first menu. (Well, with my ASUS P5B-E Plus it is so.)

Axon I did as you suggested with disk management and my G HD was not listed.:shock: I think I will open up the tower tomorow and have a look inside, i'll keep you posted.

Well I opened up my PC today and the HD was still properly attached, I took off the cables and restarted the PC to see if the Drive would still be listed in My Computer and it was. Is there any way to change the icons for your Hard Drives???.

Update..It seems that during my efforts to try and change the icon back from a CD Drive icon to a HD icon Vista out of the blue created another icon in My Computer with the origianal name Dads Media but with H instead of the old Letter G and it works i'm able to access all the contents of that Drive as before. I hate Vista.:mad:
