Vista display settings

I recently installed Vista Home Premium on a DELL Latitude C610, an oldie, but (at least until now) a goodie. It was a monster trying to install, because DELL doesn't offer support for that OS on that system. Now, that it is installed, I am unable to regulate the display settings. I have it set to "Turn off display" in 10 minutes in every "Plugged in Power Settings" option, but it doesn't turn the display off...EVER!

You have 2 problems:
1) No drivers for anything newer than XP
2) The system is so old it can't support anything newer than XP (and support of XP is questionable)

I recommend that you put whatever OS you had on it back or get a newer computer if you really want Vista.

I figured the thing was too old. In fact, I thought I said that the OS wasn't supported by DELL for this system. I have another laptop that I put "7" on, and I have two desktops with "7" on them, and I just love 'em. The Latitude thing is an experiment. Thanks for all of your responses.

It's not just that having Vista on that system isn't supported by Dell but that system doesn't have enough resources. It came with 2000 according to the specs. I doubt that any desktop or laptop released at that time has the capacity to support Vista. Actually you'd be better off with 7 on that system because it uses less resources than Vista however that system still has inadequate resources and there aren't any drivers.

"It's not just that having Vista on that system isn't supported by Dell but that system doesn't have enough resources. It came with 2000 according to the specs."

Actually, it came with XP. And maybe my statement was too ambiguous, but "supported" meant that there are no drivers, or other firmware that makes vista TOTALLY compatible with the system, as delivered by DELL. The upgrades (hardware) that were readily available were accessed. As I said, it was an experiment. I'm not finished with it. Maybe something as simple as a display driver can be implemented, not just for this system, but for any older system.

My experiment is to see how much older systems will upgrade. I hope to supply some less fortunate kids with their own system one day. So, if you run across something that you believe would be useful, I would appreciate a 'holla'. And thanks for the reply.

Thanks for that. I have been saying that I was going to try that OS, but never got around to it. I'm building a desktop that I will try it on.

Well the page I saw said that it came with 2000 but the drivers went from 98 (maybe 95) all the way to XP.

I don't doubt it. The computer has an XP sticker, and an XP registration,... from DELL. The Latitude was, evidently, a popular computer back in '02. And, apparently, before that too!
