Vista Freezing

I cannot go through a day witout Vista Freezing up. Everything just stops. If i'm using IE it stops and i cannot close it out. This happens with many programs. I use ctrl,alt,del to bring up Task Mananger and it either take a long time to come up or it won't come up at all. I have anti-virus ,firewall, spy sweeper. If anyone can help I say Thanks.

Please view your event logs and see if there is any message that would help with your diagnosis. IT could be anything from the OS to a bad driver.

Does it happen in safe mode or safe mode with networking as well (you can use IE)???

I don't know about it happening in safe mode never tried it. Not quite sure to run in safe mode all day. I do use IE and tried Firefox.

As TheWiz mentioned, it could be due to bad driver. How often does it freeze ?

turn on the computer and press F8 > select Safe mode with networking > use the computer for while and let us know.

I did as you said about the safe mode. I opened IE was surfin for about 20 min and it froze. I brought up task mgr but i could do nothing tried all the buttons. Brought up task mgr again and that time it shut down ie.

then i could be an Hardware (hdd) issue. Try to run Check Disk - chkdsk and let me know.

If you have trouble with any drivers or hardware which only freeze your computer,not cause BSOD try to provoke them to cause blue screen with STOP error

1.Navigate to Control Panel>>System>>Advanced System Settings....

and make sure you have the same settings as I:



This settings don't allow restart computer during BSOD and let you comfortable read or make photo BSOD if you ever have it.I suggest also force BSOD to return *.DMP files,sometimes *.DMP file include more information than only alone blue screen - to return DMP files you need at least 200MB paging file on system partition - if you don't have paging file on system partition (only on any other partition) you have correct it + restart computer.

2.If all settings are coorect you have to provoke wrong drivers
Navigate
Start>>Search>>verifier.exe

and set as I showing:





Apply + restart.When you restart computer prabably you'll see blue screen - make photo then reset computer and run system in safe mode.In safe mode stop tracking by verifier

Run command prompt and type

verifier /reset

or use graphical interface to delete existing settings.
Show us BSOD photo and attache DMP files.System stores DMP files in C:\Windows\Minidump

Hey Jim,
I know with Dell computers come Vista recovery discs. If you don't have a lot of programs and files, reinstall Vista. If you do, backup your files using Vista's backup wizard:

START -> In search type "Backup and Restore" and hit enter.

Follow the instructions for Backup.
When restoring files go to Backup and Restore and follow instructions for restore.

If you don't have a Vista x64 recovery disc, follow the steps:

I am attaching two .EXE files. One is ImgBurn and one is uTorrent. Install them both.
Then download the .ZIP folder. It has the torrent in it. Unzip it and double click the torrent. It will save as a .ISO file. Burn that ISO file using ImgBurn to a CD. Also read the README attached.

After you have your Vista Disc, boot from it using your BIOS.

Click Install Now.
You can also click "Repair My Computer"
Follow the on-screen instructions.

If he do fresh install and install all programs and drivers which he has before - probably he'll has the same trouble as before -In much mostly situations these problems cause some applications,drivers or hardware not separate system.

What if it's a corrupted Windows Driver? Or what if this time he installs a driver correctly, and last time he didn't? It's worth a shot unless he wants his computer to freeze everyday!
