Vista problems.. please help :(

Hi there.. i recently bought a laptop with the following specs:

Intel core2 duo mobile processor
windows vista home premium 32bit
2GB DDR2 RAM
200GB Hard drive

since i've had the laptop ive notice an error message which pops up every time i start up, mentioned 'windows defender' is not working. Ive tried many thing to solve this however i have now gave up on it.

Also my laptop tends to switch reboot by itself, sometimes it will occur 1 hour after startup.. sometimes i will occur 6 hours after start up..

Does anybody know what could be the problem??

Will it be windows fault or something with the laptop itself?

Hi Bruxx97,

You could try restoring the laptop to factory conditon ( if you have any important data, copy it off first).

You need to check the manual for the precise method - usually it is very quick from a recovery partition.


If that doesn't fix the issues, you should return it as it is new.

Welcome Bruxx97, how computer savvy are you? if not that much and the computer is fairly new, my easy suggestion is to take it back for a check up, it should still be under warranty.

Have you installed anything lately? try to reinstall windows defender again to see if that solves the issue.

If your laptop came with a Rescue CD/DVD, try to see if you can repair vista from there.

Ill try restoring it to factory see if anything happens, if not then its a trip back to the shop

and i have tried re-installing defender, it wont let me do anything with it.. kinda sucks hehe
