Vista search program question

I have now found out about the search you can do with Windows key + F, but I was wondering where that program is that the shortcut starts. Is it possible to make another shortcut that would just be on the desktop to the same search program, so you would only need to click on the shortcut on the desktop?

Also, is it possible to set a default so the search program would also search the non-indexed files, instead of going to the advanced screen and having to check the box? Or does Vista want to require you to have indexing on for every drive?

Just click on the start button, search is there. Bottom left of your screen.

YES, stoneys-nutz, that was it. Thank you very much!

I now have a desktop shortcut I call "Vista Search" and I also put it in the Start Menu that comes up when you press the Windows key.

Now that I've been using the Vista Search, I'm having another problem.

It seems that Vista Search randomly decides how to show the search results. Sometimes it shows the icons, sometimes it lists additional information such as "Date Modified and "Folder," sometimes it shows a column "rating" which doesn't help me at all.

How can I set up the way Vista Search displays the results? I tried to change some settings in the "Search Tools" "Search Options" section, but can't get it to display what I would like it to display.

As far as I know you can't set it up in advance (because every search is different and you will probably want to display the results differently, depending on what you're searching) but here's what you do to sort and display the search results in both Search and in Advanced Search:

Decide how you want to sort the search results, and while a search is actually in progress, place the cursor in the down-arrow of that column’s header (to the right of the title of that column) and single click. The Sort and Group options will come up, with a drop-down menu of additional sub-sort options. You can do this for any/all of the different columns.

To change the column title headings, right-click on the header and a menu will come up showing some of the more popular column choices. Check the ones you want displayed and uncheck the ones you don't want. For a complete list of ALL of the column title choices, click "More" at the bottom of the Menu, and you will get the full list, as well as options as to: in which order you want columns placed.
